How KDP royalties work in 2026
Amazon pays different rates depending on the format, the marketplace, and the list price. The table below is the short version; the calculator above applies the exact rules to your book.
| Format | Royalty rate | What is deducted |
|---|---|---|
| eBook — 35% | 35% of list price | No delivery fee |
| eBook — 70% | 70% of list price | Delivery fee (file size × marketplace rate) |
| Paperback | 50% below the threshold, 60% at or above | Printing cost |
| Hardcover | 50% below the threshold, 60% at or above | Printing cost |
The 70% eBook price band
In July 2026, Amazon expanded the US 70% royalty band to$2.99–$12.99. Equivalent bands apply in other marketplaces: £1.77–£12.99 in the UK, €2.69–€12.99 in the EU, C$2.99–C$12.99 in Canada, and A$3.99–A$15.99 in Australia. Price outside the band and KDP pays 35% instead.
eBook delivery fees by marketplace
| Marketplace | Delivery fee |
|---|---|
| Amazon.com (US) | $0.15 / MB |
| Amazon.co.uk (UK) | £0.10 / MB |
| Amazon.ca (Canada) | C$0.15 / MB |
| Amazon.com.au (Australia) | A$0.15 / MB |
| Amazon.de (Germany / EU) | €0.12 / MB |
Printing cost example
A 300-page black-and-white regular-trim paperback sold in the US costs$1.00 + (300 × $0.012) = $4.60 to print. At a $15 list price, the 60% royalty is $9.00, so your royalty before tax is$4.40. The calculator above does this for your exact page count, ink type, trim size, and marketplace.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Amazon KDP pay per book?
KDP pays 35% or 70% on eBooks, and 50% or 60% on print books depending on the list price and marketplace. Printing costs are subtracted from print royalties, and delivery fees are subtracted from 70% eBook royalties. Use the calculator above for your exact book.
Is the 70% KDP royalty worth it?
Usually yes, if your price is inside the 70% band and your file size is small. In the US, the 70% band is $2.99–$12.99 as of July 2026. Outside that band, KDP pays 35%, which is often a large drop. The calculator shows both the royalty and the break-even ad spend.
How does KDP calculate paperback printing costs?
KDP uses a fixed cost plus a per-page cost that varies by marketplace, page count, ink type, and trim size. For example, a 300-page black-and-white regular-trim paperback in the US costs $1.00 + (300 × $0.012) = $4.60 to print.
Does KDP charge a delivery fee on eBooks?
Yes, but only on the 70% royalty option. The fee is the file size in MB multiplied by the marketplace rate: $0.15/MB in the US, £0.10/MB in the UK, €0.12/MB in Germany and other EU marketplaces, C$0.15/MB in Canada, and A$0.15/MB in Australia.
Why does my KDP royalty estimate differ from my dashboard?
VAT, currency conversion, price matching, expanded distribution, file-size rounding, and promotional pricing can all change the final payout. The calculator uses official public rate tables and gives an estimate, not a guarantee. Always verify in KDP.
